Summary
Fabric backpack was cutout from the old unused part of jean pants and handmade by one of the youth association’s tailor teacher in the camp, then was given to Vincent Doan (MC504) as a gift when he transferred from Bidong Island to Sungei Besi camp as part of the closing island effort from UNHCR & MRCS in Oct 1991. Vincent escaped from Vietnam in May 1989. He stayed in Malaysia refugees’ camp (Bidong Island/Sungei Besi camp) for five years before being granted political refugee status by UNHCR through screening procedure based on Refugee Convention.
